50 Years Cyprus Republic
The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia hosts the exhibition “50 Years Society-Culture-Life in the Republic of Cyprus”, having as a goal to present the course through the first 50 years of the Republic of Cyprus. ARMES had an active role in the exhibit with the installation of two interactive stations, the “Interactive Timeline” and the “Cost of Living Table”.
50 years ago, on 16 August 1960, the newly-established Republic set out with steady steps on its difficult road. This course through time, as well as the memories of those who have lived and who were born and grew up in Cyprus since the birth of the Republic in 1960, that is presented in this exhibition: memories and points of reference from each decade; memories and reminiscences of historical events, social and cultural activities, and a record of our society and the everyday life of our country.
Interactive Timeline
Part of this effort to present the difficult road of the Cyprus Republic is the interactive station of the “Interactive Timeline”. It combines the traditional way of presenting facts, the timeline, with multimedia content and user interaction.
The user interacts with the content by simply moving a mechanical lever on a timeline. This way the timeline concept remains the same and is being enhanced with multimedia content. The content in this case is a set of historical videos and pictures related with the corresponding dates.
The Cost of Living Table
The cost of living is the cost of maintaining a certain standard of living. The cost of living is changing through time and one way to see this change is from the price change of basic products. The idea of this exhibit is to show the change in cost of basic products that are used by Cypriots in everyday life through an interactive table.
One traditional style table with an embedded screen shows the cost of five basic everyday products and their cost. The user can interact through a simple interface and move back and forth to time and see the cost of living in different periods.
