Pandora's Box

Pandora_logoIn collaboration with The Leventis municipal museum in Nicosia we have created a selection of augmented reality applications, the City-Puzzle. Places, monuments and buildings of Nicosia that have played or are playing an important role in the development of the history and the social life of our city is the main idea of all the augmented reality applications.

Pandora’s Box hosted the City Puzzles from the 17th of May until the 19th of September 2010. The visitors had the opportunity to interactively put together the puzzle of time and discover different moments of the same monument, place and building of our city. A fourth application in the same room will give the opportunity to touch and discover a museum object without touching it!

The exhibit had three unique augmented reality applications, the AR-Puzzle, the AR-Map and the Touch History application.

AR-Puzzle

As an interactive multimedia station, this application allows the visitors to test their knowledge through a game experience.

The visitors move the pieces of the puzzle on a table and view the 3D objects on the large screen in front of them. Purpose of the game is to assemble the pictures from different pictures tiles pasted on the side of a column. The puzzle has four different pictures that users must put together; the pictures show one monument from the city of Nicosia from four different periods.

Touch History

Touch History offers to the visitors the ability to interact with virtual artifacts. In front of a compact version of the interactive multimedia station, the visitors hold a marker in their hands and see themselves in a “mirror” holding a precious museum artifact.

The application offers a unique experience and feeling; real size objects appear in the hands of the visitors. They can appreciate them from all the different angles by simply rotating the marker in their hands.

AR Map

Another interactive educational experience is the AR Map, which challenges the visitors on their geography.

The visitors are presented with a map and a selection of markers corresponding to specific locations on the map. The visitors place the markers on the map at the correct location in order to see a relevant 3D model appear on a screen in front of them.
